A growing number of women are exploring their legal options after being diagnosed with meningioma, a potentially fatal brain tumor that has been linked to Depo-Provera birth control medication.
A lawsuit filed in federal court in California earlier this month describes some of the claims, including an increased risk of brain tumors for women who took the popular contraceptive made by Pfizer. An article in the British Medical Journal published in early 2024 found that women taking the injectable version of Depo-Provera had a 550% higher risk of intracranial meningioma. The risk is highest for women who took Depo-Provera for at least a year. More than 18,000 women who had intracranial surgery for meningioma participated in the study.

Pfizer does not warn women about brain tumors
Depo Provera lawsuits could become part of a mass tort proceeding, where individual lawsuits are consolidated before a single judge and then prepared for trial. These types of cases are sometimes known as Multidistrict Litigation, or MDL for short. The attorneys at Alex Davis Law Office have decades of experience with MDL mass tort cases involving a wide variety of medications and medical devices. We are investigating Depo-Provera claims in every U.S. state. Pfizer, the maker of Depo-Provera, does not warn consumers about the risks of meningioma on the drug’s label.
