After more than a decade of litigation, thousands of women stand to share in a settlement worth at least $5.5 billion after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer from talcum powder.
The pending settlement with Johnson & Johnson brings closure for at least 70,000 women who used talcum powder for feminine hygiene and didn’t realize they were subjecting themselves to an increased cancer risk. Plaintiffs have won multiple jury trials against J&J in recent years, but the company also has notched several victories in the hard fought lawsuits that constitute one of the nation’s largest mass tort cases.

The settlement was announced earlier today by J&J, in a one-sided press release that fails to acknowledge the dangers of talcum powder. The company stopped selling the product several years ago.
